The V Spot Weekly News RW 21

Nostlagia Week

Welcome to the V Spot ! Your home for the ecomm nearly news. Shopify this week took us down nostalgia lane but with a twist - this is the future roadmap. So like Back to the future but without Doc Brown and any McFly. We are not sure how the world would view peeping tom george mcfly these days. And it was the movie that was the voice of a new generation - much like Shopify. And as its nostalgia week were interested to hear that Nike are again going to sell on Amazon, for the first time since 2019.

This episode is powered by Omnisend — the email and SMS platform that’s not just Vinny-proof… it’s everybody-proof.

You don’t need a PhD in UX to use it. You don’t need a week to get started. And you definitely don’t need to sell a kidney to afford it.

125,000+ brands are already using it. Why? Because merchants are pulling in $68 for every $1 spent.

That’s not marketing fluff — that’s “buy me a pint” money.Omnisend gets your flows flowing, your lists growing, and your analytics actually telling you something useful — not just “open rate is up 0.3%.”And yes, they’ll migrate you for free.

(That’s normally a $1,000 oh-god-why-haven’t-we-done-this-sooner situation.)

Shoutout to Tadas and the team — still the only questionable decision they’ve made is sponsoring this show. But hey, they’re smart — they’ll figure it out.

Powerful. Not complicated. And blessedly acronym-light, unless the acronym is ROI.

Lets do the news.

More layoffs again this week and today Walmart announced 1500 jobs in the US retail global tech team. And Nike offloaded a number of limited tech employees …. Oh Sorry, a limited number of tech employees. Could the last John Donahoe disciples please turn on the lights.

Google further rowed out their best defense is the best offense AI shopping assistant. They have so much confidence in it, it does not even have a name yet. Evangelists everywhere got super excited, leaving reality themselves to gorge on shared Linkedin Stories.

Davids Bridal opened a new affordable luxury store concept this week - named Diamonds and Pearls in a simple nod to Prince. The team are exploring other Prince song store themes:

  • Their hat Store - Raspberry Beret

  • Their on Fleek store - U got the look

  • The Tinder store - I wanna be your lover

  • Their Kids lines - Alphabet St

  • Their Runaway brides pre loved store - When doves cry

  • Their new men's narcissism range - Sexy Motherfucker

Target earnings dropped this week. Reminding us of that old proverb. If a tree falls in the woods and there is no one there to hear it, does it make any sound.

Retailwire dropped a headline so intriguing we didn't need to read further to know what the answer was - McDonalds Chef Reveals the secret of what makes its coffee a customer favorite - a couple of anomalies in the sentence but we are pretty sure the secret sauce is whatever makes Chefs coffee, Irish.

There was an interview with Pinterest CEO Brian Ready this week on CNBC - we didn’t watch it either.

And that’s a wrap for today — but before you dive back into your inbox (or run from it), here’s your reminder:

Omnisend isn’t just a tool. It’s your new growth engine, your 24/7 wingman, and the ESP that won’t ghost you after onboarding.

You’re one flow away from a revenue glow-up. No friction. No fluff. No faking it till you make it. See why 125K brands are already laughing all the way to the dashboard.

Thanks again to our sponsors at Omnisend — may your subject lines always be clicky, and your unsubscribes forever few.

Thanks for watching the V Spot. Thats the 6 minutes you won’t get back this week.
